One of the most common questions we hear from our guests after their long days of exploring Devon’s coast and countryside is…. you guessed it, ‘where’s the pub?!’ We are lucky to have several pubs serving great ales, drinks and food and all bursting with character and history right on our doorstep. Whether you’re looking for a locally sourced pint, a hot drink after a day’s walking, or a traditional pub meal by a roaring fire, you’re sure to find your ideal pub in the area. Here are some the pubs that are most popular amongst our guests!

The Bell Inn
The Bell Inn sits in the heart of the village square in the picturesque Chittlehampton with its impressive church and thatched cottages. It is just under 2 miles from us and and walkable from our properties. The Bell Inn welcomes dogs in the bar and garden and has a children’s play area. Its main bar offers a wide range of locally sourced real ales, wines and spirits. The team take pride in their menu of locally sourced food that also caters for vegetarians and children, the kitchen is open daily from midday-3pm for lunch, and 5pm-9pm for dinner .

The Rising Sun
The Rising Sun is located at Umberleigh Bridge, overlooking the Taw River. At just 1.7 miles from us, it is walkable. The Rising Sun’s menu changes with the seasons and always boasts the pub classics, with a few dishes thrown in to surprise you. Visitors can also enjoy their wide range of drinks, including locally sourced ales, wines, and spirits. Make sure to check their opening times, as they do change throughout the year!

The Exeter Inn
In our opinion – the best Sunday roast you will find in the area. Lovely 16th century thatched coaching inn which is popular amongst locals, walkers and well-behaved dogs, The Exeter Inn offers a relaxed and comfortable environment to eat and drink in, they also welcome children so the whole family can join! Their menu is full of traditional pub food, with locally sourced ales, wines, and spirits on offer too. Be sure to book in busy periods!
